IMPORTANT FACTS
Drink plenty of water over the next 3 days to help your body release built up toxins.

Do not sit longer than 30 minutes without taking a brief walk for the remainder of the day after your Bowen Session.  The body is trying to realign itself and if the posture is incorrect, the treatment may be neutralized.

Patients should return for additional treatments if needed within 5-10 days from their last Bowen Session. Other forms of treatment given 4 days before or up to five days after a Bowen session may interfere with its effectiveness.

Bowen does not interfere with the effectiveness of any other therapies or orthodox medical prescribed medicines.

Bowen is safe to use on anyone from neonates to the elderly.

There is no need to undress for a Bowen Treatment as the moves are done through the clothes with exception of the "Frozen Shoulder Move". However, each Bowen Therapist is individual in their practise and some may prefer to work with the client with minimal clothing on.)

You are encouraged to wear loose, thin clothing for that reason.
(Jeans or trousers with back pockets are not suitable.)
BOWEN THERAPY SHOULD BE CONSIDERED FOR:

  • Asthma
  • Back Pain
  • Bedwetting
  • Bowel Problems
  • Candida
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Colic
  • Digestive Problems
  • Ear Infections
  • Earache
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Groin Pain
  • Hay fever

WHAT IS BOWEN THERAPY?
Bowen Therapy is a remedial and holistic form of  'hands-on' bodywork, that is gentle and effective.

The therapist uses thumbs and fingers on precise points of the body to perform Bowen's unique sets of rolling-type moves which stimulate the muscles, soft tissue and energy within the body.

These careful moves prompt the body to reset  imbalances and healing of injuries and long-standing complaints, promoting relief of pain  and stress release. The experience of a treatment is gentle,  subtle and relaxing.

There is no manipulation and no force is used. Because Bowen Therapy addresses every system and organ in the body down to the cellular level, it has been very effective in treating many diseases, disorders, and dysfunctions in the body.  The body normally responds quickly to The Bowen Technique, making it a very time and cost-effective treatment option.

There is a minimum wait of 2 minutes between certain movements to allow the body to respond to the moves. During this time the therapist normally leaves the room to allow the patient the maximum space to fully relax.
Generally 1-3 treatments are needed for most conditions. The first treatment is to set the body up to receive the Bowen Treatment the following week. Complex chronic conditions will require longer treatment but not always.

RESEARCH ON THE EFFECTS OF BOWEN
Research to date by the University of North Carolina and the University of Manchester (UK) has shown that Bowen Therapy has a 85% success rate for back pain, 95% for TMJ, 80% for hip pain, 80% for fibromyalgia (although treatment may be over a period of time)

Bowen Therapy has a 50% success rate on the first treatment for Bedwetting & then a further 25% on the
second treatment. It is recommended that children do not eat apples if they have a bedwetting problem.

Frozen Shoulders have a 77% success rate, however you will normally get a major response within a few
days after the first treatment, if not on the day.

HOW DOES THE BOWEN TECHNIQUE WORK?

Bowen Technique therapy helps the body remember how to heal through its stimulation of the  proprioceptors, the sense organs the body uses for proper movement and balance. The messages sent to the nervous system remind the body to regain normal movement in our joints, muscles, and tendons. In its unique manner it sends corrective signals through the body along the passageways nerve impulses from the proprioceptors use.

In this way the signals go directly into the central processor of the brain for body functions, the neocortex. Bowen bypasses the reactive nerve pathways in the body and reduces the alarm reaction sent along those pathways by the brain that produces and maintains pain, spasm and inflammation in the body.

While doing this Bowen Technique can restore correct muscle tone in the affected areas of the body with immediate responses of pain reduction, general muscular relaxation, and deeper, slower breathing.

Bowen Technique strongly affects the autonomic nervous system, the system responsible for stress reactions such as the "fight or flight" reaction, as well as the recovery responses of the body. When Bowen helps reduce the "stress-oriented" dominance of the sympathetic part of the system muscle tension decreases, nerve hypersensitivity is reduced and the feedback loops that control acute pain in the body are interrupted.

At the same time that is happening, the parasympathetic portion is reciprocally restored, increasing blood and lymph flow, feeding starved tissue and reducing inflammation.People can feel shifts in their bodies during and after Bowen sessions while the autonomic system comes back into balance. As this happens, the healing process can accelerate.

Spasm and inflammation, normally healthy responses immediately after an injury, too often remain long after and become the problem. Bowen Technique can directly relieve these symptoms through reducing sympathetically maintained muscle contraction and increased blood and lymph flow.

While there are often immediate positive results, they are just as likely to unfold over a longer period of a few days to a week. Patterns of dysfunction that have arisen over time may take time and repetition to be replaced with new, healthy patterns. Bowen Technique can restore patterns of normal function within 3-4 sessions with 3-8 being an ordinary treatment protocol.

Bowen Technique can be seen as new more efficient software for the body's computer. If the software is more efficient, the computer works faster and easier, and "crashes" less often. Bowen Technique introduces a carefully calibrated input to the body's computer to facilitate a faster, more effective response to stress, trauma, and injury. Bowen Technique acts as a dynamic catalyst for healing.

Bowen Technique complements and amplifies other healthcare modalities, but as in computers, too many commands can overwhelm the program that is running, over stimulating the body can distract it from responding fully to its new recovery program. Bowen is best used in a rotation with other modalities.

Bowen Technique is an innovative healthcare modality, providing a quick complementary and very effective way to accelerate healing and recovery.
